The Mead Composition Notebook

Okay, uh, look, if you want to just keep on doing the same old thing, then maybe this idea is not for you. I, for one, am not going to compromise my artistic integrity. And I'll tell you something else, this is the show and we're not going to change it. Right?

The first time I ever heard of the concept of LSD, it came from an episode of “Roseanne.”  Darlene had been spending more and more time at college, and announced that she wouldn’t be home for Thanksgiving.  In a desperate plea to keep her home, her jilted recent ex-boyfriend, and Conner step-child, David took this moment to rat her out for all the drugs she was doing at school.  Namely pot, speed, and she dropped acid “once or twice.”

“You dropped acid?!” Roseanne asked, astonishingly.

“You can get high off of acid?” I also asked with astonishment. “But doesn’t that stuff like burn skin and melt metal? Jesus, how crazy do you need to be to put acid in your mouth?

… I bet it gets you soooo high.”

A couple years later, I found out that the drug acid was an entirely different thing. A few too many years later.

So why does this performance of “The Monster Mash” make me think of  LSD?

oh, no reason … no reason at all…

(wink!)

(But seriously, this is a great performance.)
